CU Baseball and Lacrosse In Action This Weekend

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball, Men's and Women's Lacrosse programs will be in action this weekend with Baseball and Women's Lacrosse hosting contests at home.

The Chowan Baseball team hosts East Stroudsburg in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan improved to 6-9-1 on the season after picking up a 6-2 during the week against Barton.

Nick Rose leads the ball club with a .388 batting average and is tied with Harry Markotay with 19 hits.  Markotay leads the team with 15 RBI.  Markotay is hitting .306 this season while teammate Robert Williams is just above him at .308.

Ryan Gallaccio moved to 1-1 on the season with the win against Barton.  Josh Vincent leads the team with two wins.  Cody Smith sits with 26 strikeouts.

WARRIORS FACTS
East Stroudsburg is 5-3 on the season and ranked 10th in the recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Regional poll.

Zarley Cina is second on the club with a .441 batting average.  Cina leads the team with 15 hits and five home runs.  Cina was named NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week.  Mike Pepio is 1-1 on the season with a 1.17 ERA.

Women's Lacrosse

The Chowan Women's Lacrosse team hosts Southern Wesleyan in a Conference Carolinas match-up on Saturday, March 3.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan picked up their first win of the season during the week defeating Coker, 15-14.  The Hawks are 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas action.

Heather Orell tallied her second hat-trick outing of the season with a season-high five goals to lead the team with 10 goals on the year.  Orell also leads in assists with four.

Alexandria Hammonds is second on the squad with eight goals, while Jasmine Latney (5), Misten White (5), and Tashana Barnett (4) have found the back of the net multiple times.

Mallory Dunker is 1-0 this season in goal.

WARRIORS FACTS
Southern Wesleyan is 0-3 in their inaugural season and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas action.

Abigail Welch leads the charge for the Warriors scoring seven of the 13 goals this season.  Taylor Hames and Jairy Sandoval split the final six goals.

Men's Lacrosse

The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team travels to Newberry for a non-conference match on Saturday.

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan slid to 2-2 on the season after falling to Catawba last week.  The Hawks started the season 2-0, but are on a two match slide.

Nick Lavoy leads the team with 17 goals, while teammate Anthony Alfonso sits with 12 goals.  Noah Holloway and Austin Lee has scored six goals each.

WOLVES FACTS
Newberry hosts the Hawks with a 2-3 overall record in their inaugural season.  The Wolves picked up their last contest at home against Alderson-Broaddus last weekend.

Stone Boone and Dylan Mansur lead the Wolves with 10 goals each.  Mansur has posted 13 assists this season.
