Balanced Attack Propels Hawks to Twin Bill Victory Over Saint Augustine's

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARY, NC - The Chowan University baseball team picked up two CIAA wins on Sunday afternoon against Saint Augustine's University. A balanced attack of solid pitching and strategic offense propelled the Hawks to a 3-0 game one win and a 1-0 game two win. The Hawks improved to 14-19 overall and 5-3 in CIAA play after Sunday's twin bill sweep.

Cody Smith pitched a flawless five innings for the Hawks for his second win of the season. He scattered three hits and struck out five batters to help set up the Hawks for the win. Jake Moore picked up a save after throwing the last two innings. The two pitchers combined efforts to keep the Falcons off the board for seven frames. Moore gave up a hit and struck out two Falcons.

Chowan posted two runs in the top of the 3rd inning to get a 2-0 lead. Julian Lopez and Tyler Jones reached base on errors by the Falcons. Lopez crossed the plate on the second error for a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Marquise Lanier singled to score Jones for a 2-0 lead.

Chowan plated another run in their next at-bat when Trent Brosdahl doubled to lead the inning off and was later driven in by Emory Chopp on an infield out.

With a 3-0 lead, Smith and Moore held the Falcons off the board for the eventual win. Brosdahl and Marvin Harrell were the only two Hawks that garnered multiple hits. They both finished game one 2-3 at the plate.

Bailey Lipscomb pitched the shut out, 1-0 win in the night cap. He gave up six hits and struck out five for his third win of the season.

Connor Arcobasso laid down a squeeze bunt in the top of the third inning to plate Lopez for the games only run and ultimately the game-winning run.

Chowan was held to just three hits in the game. Arcobasso, Brosdahl, and Jones each picked up a hit in the pitcher's duel.
