Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The Chowan University baseball team suffered a 3-1 loss to #1 the University of Mount Olive Trojans on Tuesday night. The Trojans, who are currently ranked atop NCAA D2 baseball polls, posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to help ice the game against the Hawks.
Chowan's pitching staff combined efforts to hold the top ranked team to just six hits in the game.
Cody Smith got the nod on the mound, putting his 3-0 record to the test. Smith posted a solid pitching outing, giving up three hits and three runs, and striking out two batters. With all three of UMO's runs coming under Smith's time on the mound, he suffered his first loss of the season.
Bailey Lipscomb and
Vinny Puma kept the Trojans off the board for the next four frames.
The Trojans held the Hawks to five hits in the game. Chowan posted a run in the top of the fourth inning when
Trent Brosdahl drove in Marvin Harrell, Jr. on a sacrifice fly. Chowan had the game-tying run at the plate in their last at-bat but their rally was cut short by Mount Olive's pitching staff.
Zack Cooper posted the only multiple hit game for Chowan. He tallied two hits in four at-bats with a double.

Julian Lopez, and Brosdahl each posted a hit in the game.
