HILTON HEAD, SC-The Chowan University men's tennis team picked up a 8-1 win over Davis & Elkins College Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks advanced to 3-4 on the season while, the Senators fell 3-3 overall.
In doubles play,
Mateusz Izycki and
Mariano Yeh picked up the number two doubles play over Matthew Alexander and Samuel Vallieres 8-6, before Rafael Goncalves and
Louis Proulx beat Tristram Spitsnaugle and Jack Clifton 9-8, in the number three doubles match. The Senators picked up their lone 8-6 win in the number one doubles play, Tare Mariga and Ivan Bonderanko over
Farid Hajizada and
Adi Kaliakperov.
In singles play, Bonderanko dropped to Kaliakperov 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 in the number one singles match. Hajizada defeated Mariga 3-6, 6-1, 1-0, in the number two position. Izycki picked up the number three singles play over Vallieres 6-0, 6-3, before Clifton fell to Yeh in the number four singles match 1-6, 6-1, 10-5. Goncalves and Proulx both picked up the number five and sixth singles for the Hawks. Goncalves over Alexander 6-2, 6-1, and Proulx over Spitsnaugle 6-0, 6-2.
Chowan will continue play at the Spring Tennisfest as they match against Northwood University on Wednesday March 8
th.
