Box Score PEMBROKE, NC - The Chowan University baseball team suffered a tough 11-10 loss to UNC-Pembroke on Tuesday night. The Braves had to rally from behind to beat the Hawks. Chowan, who persistently posted runs on the board throughout nine innings of play, pounded out a season-high 17 hits as a team. Leading the way was newcomer
Trent Brosdahl, who finished the game with a 5-5 plate performance.
Chowan posted four runs in their first at-bat to take an early lead. UNC-Pembroke answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Emory Chopp started the game. He held the Braves off the board in the 2nd inning and got another run from his offense in the top of the third to take a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom of the third inning. The Braves tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third. The Braves put up six runs in the 5th and 6th innings to get on top of the Hawks 11-8. Chowan put up a pair of runs in the top of the 7th inning to cut the Braves lead to one run at 11-10. The Braves pitching kept the Hawks from crossing the plate in their final two at-bats and picked up the eventual 11-10 win over Chowan.
Brosdahl ended the day 5-5 with three runs batted in, two runs scored, and a homerun. Vinny Puma,
Jack Downum, and
Bailey Lipscomb all pitched in relief of Chopp. Downum was credited with the loss after giving up the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. Chopp pitched 3.2 innings, scattered five hits, and gave up three runs.
Zack Cooper went 3-5 with an RBI.
Harry Markotay,
Marquise Lanier, and
Connor Arcobasso each tallied two hits in the game. Along wth Brosdahl, Markotay and
Marvin Harrell Jr. accounted for a homerun in the game.
The Hawks will finish up the two-game series with the Braves on Wednesday, March 8th. First pitch is slated for 3:00pm at Sammy Cox Stadium on the campus of UNC-Pembroke. Fans can follow the game live at gocuhawks.com.
