Box Score 2 PETERSBURG, VA - The Chowan University baseball team swept a doubleheader against Virginia State University on Sunday afternoon to improve to 12-18 overall and 3-3 in the CIAA. Chowan won game one 6-4 and game two 6-0 to drop the Trojans to 12-13 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Zack Cooper helped propel his squad to the 6-4 game one win after pitching the win and going 2-3 at the plate with a homerun. Cooper pitched 4.1 innings in the win, scattering seven hits and giving up three earned runs.
Vinny Puma pitched in relief of Cooper. He gave up one hit in 2.3 innings of work for the save. Joining Cooper with multiple hits was
Marquise Lanier who went 3-4 with two runs scored.
CU's
Matt Kaplan pitched a complete game, shut out in game two for his first win of the season. He gave up just two hits in seven innings of work.
Trent Brosdahl paced the Hawks offensively in the second game. He was the only Hawk to garner multiple hits after going 2-3 with a two-run homerun, his sixth of the season.
Chowan will host Frances Marion University on Wednesday, March 29th at 1:30pm at Hawkins Field in their next outing. They will get back to CIAA play April 1st-2nd with a four-game road series at Saint Augustine's University.
