Box Score PETERSBURG, VA - The Chowan University baseball team split a CIAA doubleheader with Virginia State on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks posted a 6-1 first game win over the Trojans but dropped the night cap 4-0. The split moved the Hawks to 10-18 on the season and 1-4 in CIAA play. The Trojans moved to 12-11 overal and 1-1 in league play.
Chowan's
Cody Smith picked up the win after throwing four innings. He gave up a run and struck out one in his first start of the season. Chowan collected nine hits in the win with
Connor Arcobasso going 2-4 with two runs batted in.
The Trojans held the Hawks off the board in the game two, coming away with the 4-0 shut out win. VSU's pitching staff held Chowan to two hits in the loss. Marvin Harrell and
Aaron Flanagan gained the Hawks lone hits with one each.
Bailey Lipscomb pitched the loss in game two. He tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs.
The Hawks and the Trojans will wrap up the four-game series on Sunday, March 26th. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm on the campus of Virginia State University.
