PETERSBURG, VA- The Chowan University men's tennis team grabbed their third consecutive win over Virginia State University Thursday afternoon with a 9-0 victory. The Hawks move to a 9-6 overall while the Trojans slipped to 4-4 on the season with the setback.
In doubles competition,
Farid Hajizada and
Adi Kaliakperov opened the match with an 8-3 win over Sultan Kenes and Jonathan Fuchs.
Mateusz Izycki and
Mariano Yeh teamed up for an 8-1 win over Alexzander Walker and Marcus Smith in the number two doubles position before,
Rafael Goncalves and
Louis Proulx beat Blaine Davies and Keon Halley 8-1 in number three doubles action.
Heading into singles play, Chowan picked up a win at all six positions. In the number one singles match, Kaliakperov defeated Kenes 7-5, 6-1, while Smith fell to Izycki in the number two singles 6-1, 6-0. Goncalves picked up the number three singles play 6-2, 6-1 over Fuchs, while Yeh beat Davies 6-0, 6-1 in the number four singles position. At the fifth singles match, Proulx won 6-2, 6-1 over Walker.
Enrique Barge secured the sixth singles victory over Halley 6-3, 6-2 for Chowan.
The Hawks return to home court on Friday, March 24
th to host North Carolina A&T University. First serve is set for 3:00 pm.
