MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University men's tennis team clinched a 7-2 win over Averett University in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks advanced to 8-6 on the season while the Cougars slipped to 6-4 overall with the setback.

In doubles competition, Chowan picked up their lone doubles win in the number one position. Adi Kaliakperov and Farid Hajizada defeated Lauri Soome and Caius Blomqvist 8-6. Averett's James Wright and Nicolas Yanes beat Mateusz and Mariano Yeh 8-6 in the number two doubles match while, Rafael Goncalves and Louis Proulx fell to Abdugani Ganiev and Nicolas Quevedo 8-4 in the third doubles play.

Averett led Chowan 2-1 heading into singles play, but the Hawks swept all six singles matches for the win. Kaliakperov beat Blomqvist 6-2, 6-4 in the number one singles while, Hajizada grabbed the number two singles match 6-4, 7-5 over Soome for the Hawks. At the third singles play, Izycki beat Wright 6-3, 6-2, before Quevedo slipped to Goncalves 6-4, 6-3. Yeh picked up the number six singles position 6-3, 6-0 over Carlos Lora for the Blue and White. Proulx won the number six singles over Ganiev 6-3, 6-1 to secure the 7-2 victory for Chowan.

The Hawks return to action on March 23^rd when they travel to Petersburg, Virginia and take on conference foe, Virginia State University.
