GREENSBORO, NC- The Chowan University men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 match to West Virginia Wesleyan College in nonconference play on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks slipped to 6-6 overall while, the Bobcats advance to 3-4 on the season.
At the number one doubles position, Lukas Laipold and Pierre-Olivier Bedard beatÂ
Farid Hajizada and
Adi Kaliakperov 8-1, while Nathan Sabate and Ferran Berga picked up the number two doubles match for the Bobcats 8-4, over
Mateusz Izycki and
Mariano Yeh. The Hawks recovered in the number three doubles position when
Rafael Goncalves and
Louis Proulx beat Ramon Rodriguez and Alexander Lyudinovskiy 8-5.
West Virginia led the Hawks 2-1 into singles play, but Chowan grabbed the number one singles match when Kaliakperov beat Laipold 6-2, 6-0. The Bobcats earned the number two singles 6-3, 6-3 when Sabate defeated Hajizada. At the number three singles play Izycki won 7-5, 6-3 over Jacobo Rendon, before Goncalves fell to Rodriguez 6-2, 6-4 in the number four singles. Lyudinovskiy won the fifth singles position over Yeh 6-1, 6-1 for West Virginia while, Proulx fell to Berga in a tiebreaker 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 at the number six singles match.
The Hawks will return to home court on March 15
th as they host Averett University. Match is set for 4:00pm.Â
