Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, NC - The Chowan University baseball team split a doubleheader with Lock Haven University on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles edged the Hawks 6-3 in the opening game but Chowan bounced back to win the night cap 11-5.
The Eagles held Chowan to six hits in the opening game of the doubleheader. After taking a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat, the Hawks fell behind in the top of the third inning 2-1 and would not put enough hits together to overcome the deficit. Chowan fell 6-3 with
Bailey Lipscomb picking up the loss on the mound. Lipscomb tossed 4.2 innings, giving up eight hits and five runs. He struck out three Eagle batters but dropped his third game of the season.
Daniel Whitener pitched 2.1 innings in relief, giving up a hit and a run.
Aaron Flanagan tallied Chowan's only multiple hit game after going 2-3 at the plate.
Marquise Lanier went 1-4 and accounted for two runs batted in.
The Hawks bats came alive in the night cap win, pounding out 15 hits as a team and holding Lock Haven to four hits.
Vinny Puma pitched the win, throwing four innings, giving up four runs, and striking out four batters.
Corey Fago and
Matt Kaplan combined efforts in relief of Puma to help advance the Hawks to their 5th win of the season.
Chowan exploded in their first at-bat of the game, plating four runs. They added two runs in the bottom of the third inning and iced the game with a five-run 4th inning.
Lanier went 3-4 while teammate
Zack Cooper went 3-4 with three runs scored. Flanagan ended game two 2-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.
Trent Brosdahl knocked in two runs on a 1-4 plate performance.
Chowan and Lock Haven will wrap up the four-game series with a Sunday afternoon doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm.
