MURFREESBORO, NC-The Chowan University men's tennis team suffered a narrow 6-3 loss to University of Mount Olive on Friday afternoon. Chowan slid to a 1-3 on the year while Mount Olive moves to 2-1 on the season with the victory.

The Trojans' Sherzod Akramov and Jacob Clarke grabbed an early lead with the number three doubles 8-7 (8-5) victory over Rafael Goncalves and Louis Proulx . Mateusz Izycki and Mariano Yeh picked up a 8-7 (8-5) win over Jose Cortijos and Martim Sousa in the number one doubles match. In the number two doubles position, Farid Hajizada and Adi Kaliakperov fell 8-7(8-6) to Ogulcan Deniz and Martin Moser giving Mount Olive the 2-1 advantage going into singles play.

In singles play, Kaliakperov defeated Deniz 6-2, 7-5 in the number one seed. The Trojans' Cortijos won over the second singles position 6-2, 6-2 to Izycki. Yeh suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Martin Moser in the number three singles position, while Hajizada hung on to defeat Sousa in the fourth singles match. In the fifth singles play Goncalves dropped to Jack Middleton. Akramov picked up the number sixth singles match over Proulx.

The Hawks are back in action on home court for a match up against Tiffin University on February 25^th. Match set for 10:00am.
