Box Score FLORENCE, SC - The Chowan University baseball team wrapped up their two-game series with Francis Marion University on Wednesday night. The Hawks fell with a final score of 11-4. The Patriots used an eight-run second inning to help propel them to the win. Chowan falls to 2-4 on the year while FMU remains undefeated at 8-0.
The Hawks pounded out 14 hits in the game. Five Chowan players garnered multiple hits, led by
Zack Cooper who went 2-5 with a run scored and a run batted in.
Marquise Lanier,
Trent Brosdahl,
Aaron Flanagan, and
Robert Williams also tallied two hits in the game.
Chowan took an early 2-0 lead after the top of the second inning. Cooper led the inning off with a single to left field. Brosdahl and Williams followed with singles of their own to load the bases for
Tyler Jones. Jones drew a bases load walk to plate Cooper. With two outs, CU's
Marvin Harrell Jr. scored Brosdahl from third on a sacrifice fly to give his team a 2-0 lead.
FMU answered the Hawks in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead back after scoring eight runs off of six hits and a Hawks error. Chowan added single runs in the 3rd and 8th innings but they could not overcome the eight run second inning posted by the Patriots.
Emory Chopp (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound. He threw 1.2 innings, giving up five hits and eight runs, only one of which was earned.
Daniel Whitener came in to throw behind Chopp. Whitener tossed 3.1 innings, scattering three hits and getting three strikeouts.
Corey Fago and Cooper each threw an inning in relief.
Chowan returns to action on Saturday, February 18th, when they play host to West Liberty University in a 12:00pm doubleheader.
