Bluefield State Blanks Chowan

BLUEFIELD, WV- The Chowan University men's tennis team's season came to an end on Monday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to Bluefield State College in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship. 

In doubles play, Farid Hajizada/Adi Kaliakperov dropped an 8-2 decision at the #1 position while Rafael Goncalves/Louis Proulx came up short in an 8-3 result in #3 doubles.  Mateusz Izycki/Mariano Yeh battled Anthony Bruem/Ignario Pulido in #2 doubles play before falling short in a 9-7 decision. 

In singles competition, the Big Blues maintained the momentum; earning two victories to secure the 5-0 win.  Yeh fell to his opponent 6-2, 6-2 in #5 singles play while Proulx was outlasted 6-3, 6-4 in #6 singles.

The Hawks' season ends with a 21-7 overall record.  Chowan claimed their third consecutive CIAA Regular Season title, earned their first CIAA Championship title, made their second NCAA Atlantic Regional appearance in program history and claimed their first-ever win in regional post-season play this season. 

The Hawks return to action in the fall of 2016.  With the win, Bluefield State advances to the NCAA Championship in Denver, Colorado.  The Big Blues are one of 16 teams that will vie for the 2016 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship May 18-21.
