Box Score WEST LAWN, PA- The Chowan University baseball team's season came to an end on Friday afternoon with a 19-2 loss to East Stroudsburg University in the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament. The Warriors stay alive in the tournament with the win and advance with a 37-17 overall record. The Hawks end their season with a 26-26 overall mark.
East Stroudsburg got off to a strong start after plating seven runs off of five hits and two Hawk errors in their first at-bat. Chowan answered with one run in the bottom of the frame behind
Zach Cooper's fielder's choice to make the score 7-1.
The Warriors continued to control the momentum and scored seven unanswered runs over the next five innings of play to take a 14-1 lead.
Josh Martin's RBI single in the sixth gave the Hawks an additional run but East Stroudsburg scored three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to secure the commanding 19-2 win.
Chowan was held to five hits in the contest. Martin notched two hits with one RBI while Cooper,
Aaron Flanagan, and
Will Gurganus each notched one hit in the setback.
Matt Kaplan took the loss on the mound after allowing seven runs (six earned) off of four hits in .1 innings of work.
Bobby Mason,
Austin McGhee,
Carter Siweck, and Gurganus each entered the contest in-relief.
East Stroudsburg pounded out 21 hits in the game led by Ian Allen and Christian Rishel with four hits apiece. Cody Klinger picked up the win for the Warriors after holding the Hawks to three hits and two runs (one earned) in six innings of work.
Chowan closes out the 2016 season after earning their first CIAA Championship title and making their first NCAA Atlantic Region appearance in program history. The Hawks return to action in 2017.
