MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's tennis team edged Longwood University 5-4 at the Rose Family Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.  The Hawks improve to 14-6 on the season with the win while the Lancers slide to 6-14 on the year with the setback. 

Sunday's match came down to the wire, with Farid Hajizada earning the deciding win in singles play to secure the victory for the Hawks.  Chowan's win over Longwood marked the second win over an NCAA Division I opponent this season. 

The Hawks swept the Lancers in doubles play with Hajizada/Adi Kaliakperov and Louis Proulx/Rafael Goncalves earning 8-5 victories in the first and third positions, respectively.  Mariano Yeh and Mateusz Izycki teamed up for a 9-7 win in number two doubles to give Chowan a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. 

Izycki, Goncalves, Proulx, and Yeh all fell to their opponents in singles play.  Kaliakperov upended Rosen Ilchev 7-5, 6-0 in number four singles play to tie the match 4-4, and set the stage for Hajizada. 

Hajizada, playing in the number one singles position, edged Alfonso Castellano 6-3 in the opening set before falling 6-0 in set two.  Hajizada dug deep to outlast Castellano 6-3 in the third set, securing the 5-4 win for Chowan. 

The Hawks return to action on April 12^th as Chowan plays host to Virginia State University in CIAA play.  First serve is slated for 3:00pm.
