Box Score AIKEN, SC- The Chowan University baseball team dropped a 9-7 decision to USC-Aiken on Wednesday evening. The Hawks fall to 6-12 on the season with the setback while the Pacers improve to 16-4 on the year with the victory.

After a scoreless first inning, Paul Parker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving Chowan a 1-0 edge in the top of the second. Brian Parreira hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third to push the Pacers ahead 2-1 before Skylar Mercado's RBI single and a wild pitch led to two additional runs for USC-Aiken in the fourth.

The Hawks took advantage of two hits and three Pacer errors in the top of the sixth to plate four runs. Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the frame, Mitchell Price's three-run blast in the bottom of the frame restored the lead to USC-Aiken and left the Hawks chipping away at a 7-5 deficit.

The Hawks continued to battle late in the contest and used Connor Arcobassos's two-run single to knot the score 7-7 in the eighth. The Pacers answered with two runs of their own in their half of the frame with solo homeruns by Parreira and Max Schoen to secure the victory.

Troy Bettinger made the start on the mound for the Hawks and threw 4.2 innings in the contest. Emory Chopp, Carter Siweck and Austin McGhee all entered the contest in-relief with Siweck taking the loss.

James Lynch earned the win for the Pacers while Nick Jobst was credited with the save.

Arbcobasso drove in two RBIs in the loss while Aaron Flanagan and Wade Wyatt Jr. each tallied two hits apiece for the Chowan Blue and White.

The Hawks begin CIAA play this weekend in a four-game weekend series against Winston-Salem State University. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.
