Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC - The Chowan University baseball team erased a three-run deficit over their last two at-bats to come from behind to beat Salem International University 10-9 in Sunday nonconference action. With Sunday's win, the Hawks came away with a three-game sweep of the Tigers. They improve to 6-10 on the year after the win. The Hawks pounded out 16 hits as a team, the highest single game hit total for the team on the year.
Scott Edge started for the Hawks on the mound. He tossed six innings, scattered five hits, and had five unearned runs. He also struck out six Salem International batters. Despite pitching well while on the mound, the Hawks defense faltered in the top of the fifth inning, accounting for five unearned runs.
Despite seven errors on the defensive side of the field, the Hawks battled back offensively to pick up their sixth win of the season. In the bottom of the 8
th inning, Marvin Harrell scored on an infield error by SIU to cut the Tiger lead to 9-7.

With CJ Atherton the mound in relief for the Tigers, the Hawks started a two-out rally that would help them get the eventual win.
Jack Downum picked up a one-out single with
Paul Parker coming in to pinch run. Parker advanced to second a wild pitch and Marvin Harrell flew out to right field for two outs.
Tanner Woods drove a ball to left center field to score Parker and knot the game at 9-9.
Connor Arcobasso hit a hard shot to third base that squibbed by the third baseman allowing Woods to advance to third and Arcobasso to move to second base. With two outs and runners in scoring position, senior
Will Gurganus drove the ball down the right field line to score Woods and win the game 10-9.
Bailey Lipscomb pitched the final inning of the game, picking up his first win of the season. In the top of the ninth inning Lipscomb faced three batters and retired the side.
Atherton (1-1) picked up the loss for Salem International University.
For Chowan, Woods was one hit away from hitting the cycle. He tallied a homerun, a triple, and two singles. He also drove in three runs and scored four himself.
Emory Chopp went 3-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Gurganus, Cooper, and Wade Wyatt each tallied two hits in the win.
The Hawks (6-10) will travel to USC-Aiken March 8
th-9
th in their next outing. They open CIAA play on March 12
th-13
th when they travel to Winston-Salem State University. They will return to Hawkins Field on March 19
th-20
th to host Virginia State University in a four-game CIAA series.
