MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The Chowan University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to the University of Mount Olive on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play. The Hawks drop to 3-3 on the year while the Trojans advance to 5-1 overall.
At the number one doubles position
Farid Hajizada and
Adi Kaliakperov fell to Ogulcan Deniz and Sherzod Akramov 8-6 while
Mateusz Izycki and
Mariano Yeh were defeated 8-4 by Jose Cortijos and Martim Sousa in the number two position.
Rafael Goncalves and
Louis Proulx lost an 8-2 decision to Martin Moser and Yannic Stark in the third spot.
The two wins for the Hawks came at the number one and number two singles positions. Hajizada defeated Deniz 6-4, 6-0 in the number one position while Izycki topped his opponent 7-6(2), 6-2 in the second position. At number three Goncalves lost a close three set match to Moser 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. In the fourth and fifth spots, Kaliakperov and Yeh were defeated by their opponents 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively. Proulx fell to Akramov 6-3, 6-1 at number six.
The Hawks return to action on March 6
th when they travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to play Johnson C. Smith College in a doubleheader at 9:00am and 1:00pm in the first CIAA Round Up of the season.
