Box Score FLORENCE, SC- The Chowan University baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision on the road against Francis Marion University on Tuesday evening. The Hawks slide to 3-10 on the season with the setback while the Patriots advance to 13-3 on the year with the victory.
After two scoreless innings of play, the Patriots plated two runs with two outs in the bottom of the third using a two-run double by Randy Loew. Holding a 2-0 cushion, a sacrifice fly by Shuler Ward pushed Francis Marion ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Aaron Flanagan blasted a two-run homerun to left center in the top of the sixth to put the Hawks on the board. Casey Clauss' two-run single in the sixth gave the Patriots a 5-2 advantage. An RBI single by Antonio Pino in the bottom of the eighth gave Francis Marion all they would need to secure the 6-2 victory.
The Hawks tallied eight hits in the contest led by
Blake Eure with three hits. Flanagan notched both RBI in the setback with
Connor Arcobasso,
Will Gurganus,
Marvin Harrell Jr. and
Tanner Woods each recording hits in the loss.
Francis Marion had 12 hits over the course of the evening. Brooks Kennedy led the effort with four hits with Clauss, J.D. Crowe, and Loewe each adding two hits in the win.
Will Edwards took the loss on the mound for the Hawks. He threw six innings while scattering seven hits and surrendering five runs (three earned).
Carter Siweck and
Austin McGhee both entered the game in-relief. Siweck threw 1.2 innings and gave up one run (one earned).
Brandon Cook was credited with the win for Francis Marion. He surrendered six hits and two earned runs in five innings of work. Chance DuCharme and Jacob Shumate both entered the contest in-relief.
The Hawks return to Murfreesboro to host Salem International University in a three-game series March 5
th-6
th. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.
