BLACKSBURG, VA - The Chowan University men's tennis team fell to Bluefield State College 7-2 in regional play on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks drop to a 3-2 overall record on the season with the loss while the Big Blues improve to a 4-0 record with the victory.
In doubles competition,
Farid Hajizada and
Adi Kaliakperov picked up the lone doubles win for the Hawks with their 9-7 defeat of Jacob Carey and Aziz Yuldashev in the number one spot.
Mateusz Izycki and
Mariano Yeh suffered an 8-3 loss in the number two position, while in the number three position
Rafael Goncalves and
Louis Proulx lost a close 9-7 match.
In singles play, Hajizada fell to Carey 7-6(0), 6-1 in the number one position. Izycki lost 6-3, 7-5 to Anthony Braem while Goncalves dropped a hard fought match 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 to Alexandr Rudenco at the number three position. In the fourth spot, Kaliakperov was defeated 6-1, 6-3 by Bluefield State's Yuldashev and Yeh dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision to Platon Gud at the number five position. Picking up the lone singles victory for Chowan, Proulx earned a 6-3, 6-7(2), 10-8 win over Ignacio Pulido in the number six position.
The Hawks return to action on March 1st when they travel to Mount Olive, North Carolina to take on the University of Mount Olive. Match time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
