WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV - The Chowan University men's tennis team defeated Concord University 9-0 in regional play on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks improve to a 3-1 overall record on the season with the victory. The Mountain Lions post a 0-1 record with the loss.
Chowan rolled through Concord in both doubles and singles play. In doubles competition,
Farid Hajizada and
Adi Kaliakperov defeated Johnny Toshif and Javier Lietor 8-0 in the number one spot while
Mateusz Izycki and
Mariano Yeh handed Bill Wright and Steve Cohen an 8-3 loss in the number two position. In number three doubles,
Rafael Goncalves and
Louis Proulx picked up an 8-0 win over Daniel Green and William Dick.
In singles play, Hajizada defeated Lietor 6-1, 6-0 in the number one position. Izycki and Goncalves both swept their opponents in the second and third positions both with scores of 6-0, 6-0. In the fourth spot, Kaliakperov picked up a win for the Hawks with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Wright while in the fifth spot, Yeh picked up a victory over Green with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Rounding out the scoring for Chowan, Proulx earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dick in the number six position.
The Hawks return to action on February 28th when they take on Bluefield State College in Blacksburg, Virginia.
