GREENVILLE, NC- The Chowan University men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to East Carolina University on Sunday evening. The Hawks slide to 1-1 on the season with the loss while the Pirates improve to 4-0 with the win.
East Carolina went up 1-0 after doubles play, grabbing two out of the three matches. Following the Division I scoring format, the Pirates defeated Chowan in each singles position to secure the 7-0 victory.
In doubles play,
Farid Hajizada and
Rafael Goncalves fell to Tendai Tapfuma and James Ling 7-5 in the number one position. At number two, duo
Mateusz Izycki and
Mariano Yeh took down Fredric Lehfeldt and Vlad Anghel 6-4.
Carlos Ramirez and
Enrique Barge suffered a 6-2 loss to Kasey Countee and Will Bissett in the number three doubles position.
Anghel defeated Hajizada a 6-4, 6-1 at the number one singles spot while Tapfuma clipped Izycki 6-2, 7-6 (1) in the number two position. Goncalves fell to Countee 6-2, 7-5 in the third position while
Adi Kaliakperov dropped a close 4-6, 6-4 (6) decision to Ling at number four. Ronny Georgi handed Yeh a 6-3, 6-2 loss in the fifth position while Bissett topped
Louis Proulx 6-2, 6-4 in the sixth spot.
The Hawks look to recover on Tuesday when they travel to Wilson, NC to take on Barton College at 3:00p.m.
