Box Score RALEIGH, NC- The Chowan University baseball team saw their season come to an end on Friday evening with a 4-3 loss to Virginia State University in semifinal action at the CIAA Championship.  The Hawks bow out of the tournament with a 21-20 record on the year while the Trojans advance to the title game with the victory.  Virginia State will take on Winston-Salem State University on Saturday at 1:00pm at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

The Hawks took control of the game right from the start, grabbing a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but it was not enough to hold the Trojans at-bay.  Will Gurganus reached on an error to start at the game and came around to score on Tyler Burden's RBI double give Chowan an early 1-0 lead.  Stephen Hux laced a two-run double to right center to leave the Trojans trailing 3-0 in the first inning of play.

Nick Christopher stole home in the bottom of the second to give Virginia State their first lead of the game. The momentum shifted in the bottom of the fourth as the Trojans plated three runs on two hits and one error.  Tashaun Taylor singled through the right side to score Tyler Coleman and Corey Grant later scored on a passed ball to knot the score.  Zachery Jordan's groundout to shortstop allowed Taylor to score, pushing the Trojans ahead 4-3.

The Hawks were unable to answer back offensively and suffered the season-ending setback.  Burden paced Chowan with two hits and one RBI while Kyle Cross, Eure and Hux each tallied base hit knocks in the contest.
