Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC- The Chowan University baseball team fell 12-2 to #17 Mount Olive on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Trojans secured a sweep over the Hawks and improve to 30-9 on the season. Chowan slides to 14-18 on the year with the setback.
The Trojans took advantage of a wild pitch in the first inning of play to grab an early 1-0 lead. Mount Olive then plated three runs in the bottom of the second with Bretton Gouthro's two-run single and Zak Orrison's sacrifice fly to take a 4-0 advantage before Chowan got on the board thanks to a Trojan error in the top of the third.
Holding a 4-1 lead, Mount Olive scored two runs in the fourth and fifth while adding three more runs in the sixth inning to pull away 11-1. Joe Koehler's RBI single in the seventh gave the Trojans an additional run. Chowan mustered a run in the top of the eighth when
Cullen Cicotte grounded out, allowing
Josh Martin, who reached base with a triple, to score.
Martin and
Tyler Burden each had two hits in the loss while Cicotte notched the lone RBI for the Chowan Blue and White.
Bailey Lipscomb was charged with the loss on the mound. He threw 3.2 innings in the contest, surrendering six runs (five earned) off of seven hits.

Carter Siweck,
Spenser McGhee and Burden each entered the contest in-relief.
Hunter Barnett picked up his first win of the year on the mound for Mount Olive. He held the Hawks to one run (unearned) and five hits in four innings of work.
Offensively, Mount Olive had 10 different players account for 15 hits in the contest. Wednesday's victory marked the Trojans' eleventh straight win.
Chowan returns to home to Hawkins Field and CIAA play on April 11
th and 12
th when the Hawks host The Lincoln University. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm.
