Box Score 2 CARY, NC- The Chowan University baseball team dropped the final two games of the CIAA series against Saint Augustine's University on Friday afternoon. The Hawks fell 11-2 in game one and dropped a 7-6 decision in the nightcap. Chowan falls to 14-16 on the season with the setback and 5-7 in league play while Saint Augustine's improves to 13-16 and 3-1 in CIAA play after Friday's games.
In the first game, the Hawks struck in the top of the first with Flanagan's RBI double to grab an early 1-0 lead. The Falcons answered back with 11 runs over the next three innings to pull away 11-1 before Chowan got on the board in the top of the fourth with Flanagan's RBI double. The Hawks were not able to battle back from the early deficit and suffered the 11-2 setback in the opening game.
Carter Siweck took the loss in the first game after surrendering five runs (two earned) off of six hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Bailey Lipscomb and
Tre Harper both entered the contest in-relief of Siweck. Flanagan led the effort at the plate with three hits and two RBI while
Tanner Woods added two hits in the loss.
Bryan Rivera picked up the win on the mound for Saint Augustine's. He tossed all seven innings in the victory and surrendered two earned runs while scattering seven hits.
In game two, the Hawks were the first to score as they used
Tyler Burden's RBI double and
Blake Eure's RBI single to grab an early 2-0 lead. Saint Augustine's answered with three runs off of two hits in the bottom of the second before Chowan knotted the score in the third with
Kyle Cross' RBI single up the middle.
Two runs by the Falcons gave Saint Augustine's a 5-3 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the sixth, Saint Augustine's used a two-run double by Roberto Rivera to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Down but not out, the Hawks mustered three runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a passed ball and two-run single by Cross. Jeremy Sandifer took the mound for Saint Augustine's in the top of the seventh and held Chowan's offense at-bay, recording the final out to earn the save.
Cody Smith was charged with the loss on the mound for the Hawks. He threw 3.2 innings in the game, surrendering five earned runs off of four hits.
Bobby Mason and
Tyler Burden both entered the contest in-relief of Smith.
Cross paced the Hawks at the plate with three hits and three RBI in the loss. Desmond Cheek earned the win for the Falcons while Rivera and Jason Baytop each had three hits in the win. | |

The Hawks return to action on April 7
th and 8
th when they travel to take on the University of Mount Olive.
