Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University baseball team swept a pair of games from The Lincoln University on Saturday afternoon in CIAA play. The Hawks improve to 16-18 overall and 7-7 in league play with the wins while the Lions slide to 2-22 overall and 0-6 in the CIAA with the losses. Chowan picked up an 8-1 victory in the opening game before defeating the Lions 7-0 in the nightcap.

In the opening contest, the Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the first when
Blake Eure hit a double to left field to score
Will Gurganus. Chowan tacked on two runs in the bottom of the second after Gurganus' sacrifice fly and
Tyler Burden's RBI double. Holding a comfortable 3-0 lead, the Hawks added a run in the bottom of the third with
Kyle Cross' RBI single down the right field line, leaving the Lions trailing 4-0.
The Lincoln University plated one run in the fourth with Stephen Smith's RBI single but
Blake Eure's three-run homerun to left in the bottom the sixth gave the Hawks all they would need to clinch the 8-1 win in game one.
Evan Hart went the distance for the Hawks on the mound. He tossed all seven innings in the victory while holding the Lions to seven hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters.
Josh Martin and Eure each had two hits in the win with Eure knocking in four RBIs.
Ronald Lashley took the loss for Lincoln on the mound in game one. He surrendered five earned runs on six hits over the course of 5.1 innings of work. Craw Watkins entered the game in-relief of Lashley and gave up three earned runs on three hits.
Charles Gibbons, Edwin Rivera and Smith each had two hits for The Lincoln University in game one.
In Saturday's second game, the Hawks jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first using Eure's RBI single,
Tanner Woods' sacrifice fly and an error by the Lions. After four scoreless innings of play, the Hawks used a four-run sixth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead over the Lions. Burden's RBI single down the left field line, a Lion error and two-run double by Woods all contributed to the advantage.
Cody Smith threw a no-hitter in game two, propelling the Hawks to victory. He tossed all seven innings in the win and collected 12 strikeouts over the course of the contest. Smith is the first Hawks to achieve the feat this season.
Gurganus and Eure each had two hits in Saturday's second game while Woods knocked in three RBI.
Demetrius Robinson suffered the loss on the mound for The Lincoln University. He surrendered seven runs (five earned) off of eight hits.
The Hawks and Lions conclude the CIAA series on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm on Hawkins Field.
