MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's tennis team earned a 6-3 win over Shaw University on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 6-8 overall and 5-0 in CIAA play with the win while the Bears move to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in league play with the setback.
In doubles play,
Farid Hajizada and
Rafael Goncalves picked up an 8-4 win over Sergio Cuartas and Diego Choque in the number one position. Bach Tran and Juan Sanchez edged
Danilo Galovic and
Ivan Doubograev 8-5 in the number two spot while
Sasha Kirsanov and
Tristan Martin picked up a victory by forfeit in number three doubles.
Holding a narrow 2-1 lead heading into singles play, Hajizada secured a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cuartas at the number one position while Goncalves handled Gafur Sirojiddinov 6-2, 6-4 in the number two position. Diego Choque and Juan Sanchez defeated
Ivan Doubograev and
Enrique Barge in the third and fourth positions, respectively. Martin outlasted Tran 7-5, 6-2 in the fifth spot while Ramirez picked up a win by forfeit in the sixth position to contribute to the win.
Chowan's second match against Shaw, originally scheduled for Saturday at 1:00pm has been postponed. The Hawks and Bears will meet on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan on April 1
st. First serve is slated for 3:00pm.
