Box Score AIKEN, SC- The Chowan University baseball team came up short in a 6-4 decision against USC-Aiken on Tuesday evening. The Hawks post an 8-8 record on the year after the setback while the Pacers improve to 15-6.
Aaron Flanagan had two of the Hawks' six base hit knocks in the contest while
Blake Eure,
Will Gurganus,
Marvin Harrell Jr. and
Tanner Woods each tallied hits for Chowan.
Matt Bosse led the effort offensively for the Pacers with three hits and three RBI's. Randy Lucket and Chaz Pal each had two hits in the win for USC-Aiken.
Zach Moon's two-run homerun in the bottom of the second gave USC-Aiken an early advantage. A passed ball along with Harrell's RBI bunt single allowed the Hawks to tie the score in the top of the fifth but Matt Bosse's homerun in the bottom half of the frame quickly restored the advantage to the Pacers.
Chowan plated two more runs in the top of the sixth using Woods' homerun and a Pacer error to take hold of the lead once more. In the top of the eighth, an RBI single by Pal and two-run single by Bosse pushed USC-Aiken ahead 6-4. The Hawks were unable to answer back in the top of the ninth, resulting in the loss.
Bailey Lipscomb tossed seven innings on the mound for Chowan. He scattered five hits while allowing three runs (all earned) while fanning seven batters.
Tyler Burden threw one inning in-relief and suffered the loss after giving up three earned runs off of five hits in the bottom of the eighth.
Cole Lee picked up the win on the mound for the Pacers. He tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in-relief.
The Hawks and Pacers will meet again on Wednesday in Roberto Hernandez Stadium. First pitch is slated for 4:00pm.
