MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision against Barton College on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks move to 0-2 on the year with the loss while the Bulldogs start their season with a 1-0 record.
The Bulldogs swept the Hawks in doubles play.
Farid Hajizada and
Ivan Doubograev fell to Jake McCartney and Rael Velasco 8-3 in the number one position while
Enrique Barge and
Rafael Goncalves dropped an 8-1 decision to Max Lepper and Nick Genest in the number two spot.
Danilo Galovic and
Tristan Martin, in the number three position, suffered an 8-1 setback to Yaxi Pintado and Jorge Pradilla.
In singles competition, Hajizada was the lone Hawk to escape with a victory as he defeated McCartney 7-6 (8-6) 7-5. In the second position, Goncalves fell to Velasco 6-1, 6-4 while Barge dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision in the third spot. Genest clipped Martin 7-6 (2), 6-2 while Doubograev suffered a narrow 7-5, 6-3 setback in the fifth position. Pintado topped
Carlos Ramirez 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth position, securing the 8-1 win for Barton.
The Hawks return to action on Sunday when they travel to Shepherd for a 1:00pm contest.
