ROCKY MOUNT, NC- The Chowan University men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to Shaw University on Wednesday afternoon. The loss was the first for the Hawks in CIAA play this season. Chowan moves to 14-8 on the season with the loss and 7-1 in the league while the Bears improve to 10-4 overall and 7-1 against CIAA competition.

Farid Hajizada fell to their opponents 9-7 and 8-6 respectively.

Sasha Kirsanov defeated Gafur Sirojiddinov/Andre Monti 8-5 and improved their doubles record to 13-8.
In singles play, Hajizada earned his 20
th win as an individual with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Charles Silva. Hajizada was the lone Hawk to earn a victory in singles play as the Bears picked up wins in the remaining singles positions to earn the 7-2 win.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday when they travel to Petersburg, VA for a critical Northern Division match-up against Virginia State University. First serve is slated for 3:00pm.
