Box Score WILSON, NC- The Chowan University baseball team dropped a pair of nonconference games to Barton College on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks slip to 16-23 with the losses while the Bulldogs improve to 13-24. Chowan fell to Barton 9-5 in the first game and dropped the nightcap 13-6.
The Hawks opened the top of the first with a run thanks to a Bulldog error. Barton responded in their half of the frame with an RBI triple to knot the score 1-1.
In the top of the second, Chowan plated three runs using RBI's from
Tyler Burden and
Matt Wisniewski along with
Blake Eure stealing home to take a 4-1 advantage. Seven runs, five hits and one error in the bottom of the second allowed Barton to pull away 8-4. Burden's single up the middle gave the Hawks an additional run in the fourth but the Bulldogs quickly answered back in the bottom of the fifth, plating a run off a sacrifice fly to take a 9-5 lead. The Hawks were unable to rally any further and suffered the 9-5 setback in game one.
Josh Catalano, Eure and Wisniewski each tallied two hits for the Blue and White.
Brian Vincent threw two innings in the contest and took the loss on the mound.
Emory Chopp tossed four innings in-relief.
In the nightcap, Barton jumped to an early 5-0 lead using RBI singles from Blake Spangenberg and Spiers Miller along with a two-run double by Avery Harper.
Wade Wyatt's groundout in the top of the fourth put the Hawks on the board, but four additional runs by Barton left Chowan trailing 9-1.
Tanner Woods hit an RBI single in the fifth but three more runs for the Bulldogs extended Barton's lead to 12-.2.
RBI's by
Josh Martin and
Evan Seymour in the sixth made the score 12-4. Barton added a run in their half of the frame. The Hawks mustered two more runs in the top of the seventh but it was not enough to overcome the deficit, resulting in the 13-6 loss for Chowan.
Burden took the loss on the mound in game two. Woods had four hits in the loss while Catalano and Hux added two hits apiece. The Hawks return to action on April 12
th when they travel to Brevard College for a nonconference doubleheader. First-pitch is slated for 1:00pm.
