Box Score CARY, NC- The Chowan University baseball team split a pair of CIAA games on Saturday against St. Augustine's University. The Hawks took game one 7-4 before falling to the Falcons 7-0 in the nightcap. Chowan moves to 14-21 on the year and 13-5 in the league while St. Augustine's stands 14-22 overall and 5-7 in the CIAA. The Hawks and Falcons will meet again on Sunday at 1:00pm.
Tyler Woods' infield single gave the Hawks a run in the top of the first to start off the first game.
John Hunter's two-run homerun in the third put the Hawks ahead 3-0. St. Augustine's responded in the bottom of the fourth with three runs thanks to three RBI singles and added an additional run in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The Hawks answered in the top of the seventh using RBI doubles from
Tyler Burden and Woods along with
Evan Holton's two-run homerun to secure the 7-4 win.
Burden had three hits in the victory while
Kyle Cross and Woods tallied two hits for the Blue and White. Holton, Hunter and Woods each had two RBIs.
Bobby Mason threw five innings for the Hawks while scattering nine hits and four runs (four earned).
Carter Siweck earned the win on the mound after holding the Falcons to two hits.
Austin McGhee picked up one inning of relief in the contest and earned the save.
Bryan Rivera tossed a four-hit shutout against the Hawks in the nightcap to propel his team to the 7-0 win. The shutout was the second of the week for Rivera. The Falcons used two RBI singles in the first to take an early lead before scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to secure a 5-0 advantage. St. Augustine's tacked on one run in the fifth and one in the sixth en-route to the 7-0 victory.
Burden had two of the Hawks' four hits in the second game while
Colby Wiggins and Holton had base hit knocks as well.
The Hawks and Falcons will square off again on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm.
