Trojans Topple Hawks, Chowan Eliminated from CIAA Tournament

The Chowan University baseball team was eliminated from the CIAA Tournament on Friday.
Box Score PETERSBURG, VA- The Chowan University baseball team was eliminated from the CIAA Tournament on Friday afternoon.  Virginia State University topped the Hawks 21-2 to advance to the championship game against Winston-Salem State on Saturday while Chowan's season comes to an end with an 18-26 overall record. 
 
The Hawks were out-hit 28-6 in the contest.  Tyler Burden had two hits for Chowan while Josh Catalano and Evan Holton each had hits for the Hawks. 
 
Virginia State scored two runs in the bottom of the first using an RBI single from Percy Evans and RBI double by David Markins.  Holton scored for the Hawks in the top of the second thanks to a wild pitch. 
 
After responding with one run in the bottom of the second, the Trojans plated five runs in the bottom of the fifth, scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth to jump to a commanding 14-1 lead. 
 
Burden's RBI single in the seventh gave the Hawks a run, but Virginia State tacked on seven more runs of their own before securing the 21-2 victory. 
 
Evan Hart suffered the loss on the mound for Chowan.  He threw 2.2 innings in the contest.  Stephen Hux, Austin McGhee, Josh Barmoy, and Brian Vincent each entered the game in-relief of Hart.
