Box Score THOMASVILLE, NC- The Chowan University baseball team split a pair of nonconference games against Brevard College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks took the first game 3-2 before falling 8-4 in the nightcap. Chowan moves to 17-24 on the season while the Tornados slip to 17-26.
Brevard took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the first game.
Blake Eure hit a two-run homerun for the Hawks in the top of the fifth to give the Hawks a 2-1 advantage. An infield single by Brevard knotted the score 2-2, but
John Hunter's RBI double in the sixth restored the advantage to the Hawks.
Will Gurganus threw two innings in-relief of
Ryan Moore to earn the win on the mound while
Austin McGhee earned the save.
Blake Leebrick,
Colby Wiggins, and
Tanner Woods each had two hits for Chowan in the win.
Brevard jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap before adding six runs in the second to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Chowan answered with three runs of their own in the third using an error and Hunter's two-run double. An RBI from Moore in the fifth gave the Hawks an additional run but it was not enough to overcome the defecit and the Hawks suffered the 8-4 setback.
Bobby Mason suffered the loss on the mound in game two.
Stephen Hux and
Carter Siweck combined for four innings of relief pitching and held Brevard scoreless.
