Box Score MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University baseball team wrapped up a four-game series with The Lincoln University on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks took four out of four games from the visiting Lions for the sweep. The Hawks improve their overall record to 13-20 and 12-4 in the CIAA. The Hawks grabbed a piece of the regular season top spot after yesterday's CIAA play. The Hawks honored nine seniors in between today's doubleheader.
The Hawks pounded out 21 hits over two games on Tuesday, with 14 of those hits coming in the first game. After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when
John Hunter led the inning off with a line drive single to right field.
Evan Holton belted a double to the right center gap to score Hunter for the 1-0 lead. Michael Stroebel drove in Holton on a sacrifice fly for the 2-0 second inning lead.
Hunter drove in two runs in the bottom of the third inning and
Tanner Woods crossed home plate on a failed pickoff attempt to get on top of Lincoln 5-0. Lincoln finally got on the board in the fourth inning. CU's
Colby Wiggins drove in two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the Hawks lead to 7-1.
Ryan Moore came in to pinch hit for Chowan in the bottom of the fifth and drilled a three run homerun to right center field to extend the Hawks lead to 11-1. They went on to add three mores in to cruise to the 14-2 first game win.
Wiggins ended the game 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Hunter went 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Evan Holton went 2-4 with an RBI and
Josh Catalano was 2-4 with two RBI.
Will Gurganus picked up his third win of the season on the mound after he threw five innings. He scattered six hits, struck out three batters, and gave up one unearned run.
Josh Barmoy pitched two innings in relief. He stuck out three batters in the outing.
For Lincoln, Will Hodges had two of the teams' six hits. Stephen Smith took the loss on the mound.
The Lions jumped out to an early5-0 in game two. The Hawks battled back to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning after scoring seven runs. CU's Woods drilled two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to spread the Hawks lead to 10-5 and ice the four-game sweep.
Carter Siweck picked up the win on the mound after coming in for relief in the top of the second inning for
George Mazza. Siweck pitched effectively for 2.1 innings in relief for his second win of the season.
Bobby Mason and Austin Mcghee pitched the final innings of the win for the sweep.
Woods ended game two 2-3 at the plate with three RBI while Stroebel went 2-4 with two RBI.
The Hawks will travel to Saint Augustine's University this weekend for a four-game series with the Falcons.
