Braves Topple Hawks in Twinbill

Evan Holton had two hits and two RBI on Wednesday.
Box Score PEMBROKE, NC- The Chowan University baseball team suffered a duo of setbacks on Wednesday afternoon with 10-3 and 10-8 losses to #14 UNC-Pembroke.  The Braves improve to 14-5 with the wins while the Hawks slip to 1-14 with the losses.

UNC-Pembroke scored three runs in the bottom of the second of the first game using a solo homerun by Ben Schmucker and a two-run blast by Daniel Fraga.  The Braves added a run in the third with a sacrifice fly and tacked on six additional runs in the fifth with a two-run homerun, RBI single, RBI double and two-run single to take a 10-0 lead after five complete innings of play.

The Hawks mustered three runs of their own in the seventh when Wade Wyatt drilled a three-run homer to score Matt Wisniewski, Kyle Cross and Michael StrobelIan Benner took the loss on the mound after throwing three complete innings.  He surrendered four runs (four earned), five hits, and two walks while striking out three UNC-Pembroke batters.  Josh Barmoy, Brian Vincent and Emory Chopp all made appearances on the mound for Chowan.

Wyatt had two hits in the loss and had all three RBI's.

The Braves jumped to a quick 7-0 lead within the first three innings of play in the second game.  Chowan plated three runs in the top of the fourth using an RBI double by Evan Holton, and a UNC-Pembroke error to make the score 7-3.  Three additional runs by the Braves extended UNC-Pembroke's lead to 10-3.   The Hawks answered back in the top of the sixth when Evan Seymour's sacrifice fly gave Chowan an additional score.

Chowan rallied in the top of the seventh to score four runs thanks to Holton's infield single, a bases loaded walk and a two-run double by Seymour.  The comeback was not enough to overcome the deficit, resulting in a 10-8 loss for the Hawks.

Tyler Burden took the loss on the mound in game two with Will Gurganus and Austin McGhee also making appearances.  Holton notched two hits for the Hawks in the loss and had two RBI.  Seymour collected three RBI to help the cause.

Chowan returns to action this weekend when they host Mercyhurst in a three game series.  First pitch against the Lakers is slated for 12:00pm on Saturday at Hawkins Field.
