Hawks Open Series with Two Wins over Lincoln (PA)

Evan Holton had five hits against Lincoln on Monday.
Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University baseball team earned two wins over the visiting Lions of The Lincoln University on Monday afternoon in CIAA play.  The Hawks topped the Lions 13-3 in the first game before defeating Lincoln 8-3 in the nightcap. 
 
The Hawks plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning of the first game using an RBI single from John Hunter, an RBI double by Evan Holton, a bases loaded walk, a two-run double by Colby Wiggins and Stephen Hux's RBI single.  The Lions answered back with two runs in the top of the first with a two-run single to left by Gabriel Santiago to make the score 6-2. 
 
An RBI triple, Lion error and sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third led to three more runs for the Hawks resulting in a 9-2 advantage. In the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks scored three additional runs using a balk, wild pitch and RBI single to left.  Lincoln (PA) added a run in the sixth with a fielder's choice while the Hawks tacked on an additional score in their half of the frame with Kyle Cross' sacrifice fly. 
 
Holton paced the Hawks with three hits in the win.  Burden, Hux and Colby Wiggins each tallied two hits for the Blue and White.  Evan Hart picked up the win on the mound for Chowan.  He threw five innings and held the Lions to two hits.  Ian Benner tossed two innings in-relief of Hart. 
 
Santiago led the effort for the Lions with two hits and two RBI. 
 
Lincoln (PA) got on the board first in the nightcap with two runs in the top of the second.  Blake Leebrick and Blake Eure drew bases loaded walks in the Hawks' half of the frame and Burden added an RBI single resulting in a 3-2 advantage.
 
Chowan used a bases loaded walk, two sacrifice flies and Leebrick was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to hand the Hawks a 7-2 lead.  Wyatt drew a bases loaded walk in the home half of the fourth allowing Chowan to pull away 8-2.  The Lions answered with a run of their own in the top of the fifth using an RBI single. 
 
Holton had two hits in the win for Chowan.  Alejandro Jones and Stephen Smith each tallied two hits for Lincoln.  Stephen Hux picked up the win for the Blue and White.  He threw five innings and scattered nine hits in the win.  Burden tossed two innings in-relief.
 
Chowan and Lincoln will meet again on Tuesday afternoon.  The CIAA doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:00pm.  The Hawks will celebrate Senior Day in-between contests.
