Trojans Take Twinbill over Hawks

Evan Seymour had three hits for the Hawks in game one against Mount Olive.
Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC- The Chowan University baseball team suffered a pair of setbacks in a nonconference doubleheader against #27 Mount Olive on Wednesday evening.  The Trojans topped the Hawks 17-5 in game won before earning an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.  Chowan moves to 9-20 on the year while Mount Olive improves to 21-11.
 
An RBI triple, infield single and three-run home run in the bottom of the second led to five runs for the Trojans in the bottom of the second.  The Hawks plated three runs in the top of the third using Will Gurganus' two-run double to center and Evan Holton's single to left field.  The Trojans answered in the home half of the fourth with three runs off four hits and one Hawk error, resulting in an 8-3 advantage.  
 
RBI singles by John Hunter and Josh Martin for Chowan made the score 8-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.  Mount Olive capitalized on a nine-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach and secure the 17-5 victory.    
 
Evan Seymour paced the Hawks at the plate with three hits while Hunter and Woods each added hits for Chowan.  Brian Vincent took the loss on the mound.  He surrendered eight runs (eight earned) and eight hits in four innings of work.  Josh Barmoy and Emory Chopp each pitched in-relief of Vincent. 
 
The Hawks mustered three hits in game two against the Trojans.  Kyle Cross, Hunter and Woods each tallied base hit knocks in the shut-out loss. 
 
Mount Olive took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and used a three-run homerun in the second before plating runs in the third and fourth to secure the 8-0 win.
 
Ian Benner suffered the loss on the mound.  In two innings of work, Benner surrendered 10 hits and six runs (six earned).  Carter Siweck and Austin McGhee both entered the game in-relief of Benner. 
 
Chowan returns to CIAA play this weekend when they host Lincoln (PA) in a four game series.  First pitch on Saturday and Sunday is slated for 12:00pm.
