Box Score AIKEN, SC- The Chowan University baseball team suffered their second setback in as many days on Wednesday evening with a 17-4 loss to the USC Aiken Pacers. The Hawks slip to 1-18 on the year while the Pacers improve to 16-5 with the victory.
A four-run first inning gave USC Aiken a comfortable lead to start out the game.
John Hunter led off the top of the second with a solo homerun to put the Hawks on the board. The Pacers plated three more runs in their half of the frame with Matt Bosse's RBI single and Ryan Metzler's two-run base hit up the middle.
An RBI triple and single in the bottom of the third put the Pacers ahead 9-1.
Tanner Woods' double down the left field line allowed Hunter to score and gave the Hawks their second run of the contest in the top of the fourth.
USC Aiken exploded for a five-run fourth inning to move ahead 14-2, but the Hawks scored two runs of their own in the top of the fifth thanks to a two-run double by
Kyle Cross. The Pacers tacked on two more runs in their half of the frame and an additional run in the sixth before closing out the game with the 17-4 win.
Hunter went 2-2 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI in the loss.
Tyler Burden suffered the setback on the mound while
Ian Benner,
Emory Chopp,
Josh Barmoy and
Austin Hall each entered the game in-relief.
Adrian Pivero picked up the win for the Pacers on the hill. Tyler Costen when 4-5 at the plate with four runs scored and four RBI's. Ty Barkell collected three hits and three RBI's for USC Aiken.
The Hawks return to action this weekend when they host Virginia State University in a four game series. Chowan takes on the Trojans on March 15
th and 16
th. First pitch is slated for 12:00pm on both days.
