Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University baseball team dropped a nonconference doubleheader to the visiting Millersville University Marauders on Monday afternoon.  Chowan fell 5-3 in the first game and 9-2 in the nightcap.   The Hawks slip to 1-4 on the short season while the Marauders improve to 4-1.

The Hawks took advantage of two throwing errors in the home half of the second to take an early 2-0 lead in the first game.  Millersville responded in the top of the third when Tyler Orris' single to left field allowed Chas McCormick to score.  The Marauders scored an additional four runs in the top of the fourth inning, building a commanding 5-2 lead.

Will Gurganus stole home in the bottom of the fifth to give the Hawks their third run of the game.  Both teams failed to score in the remainder of the contest, giving Millersville the 5-3 win.  Ryan Moore suffered the loss on the mound while Chris Murphy earned the win for the Marauders.  Adam Zipko was credited with the save.  Moore and Bobby Mason scattered seven hits over the course of the game.

Gurganus was the lone Hawk to garner multiple hits in the game while Stephen Hux and Evan Holton both tallied singles in the loss.

The Marauders used a three-hit, two-run first inning to grab an early 2-0 advantage in game two.  David Pine scored off a pass ball and Zach Stone hit a two-run homerun in the top of the second to leave the Hawks trailing 5-0 heading into their half of the frame.

Ryan Seymour's RBI single in the bottom of the second put the Hawks on the board, but Kurt Seiders' RBI for the Marauders extended Millersville's lead to 6-1.  A sacrifice fly by and RBI triple in the top of the fourth gave the Marauders an 8-1 cushion.

Millersville added an additional run in the fifth and while the Hawks plated a run of their own in the sixth before the game was called due to darkness.

George Mazza took the loss on the mound for the Hawks in the nightcap while Tad Barton earned the win.  Seven different Hawks notched base hits in the contest.
Chowan returns to action this weekend when they host East Stroudsburg in a four game series.  First-pitch is slated for 12:00pm on Saturday at Hawkins Field.
