Hawks Silence Cobras for Season Opening Win

CU's Ryan Moore struck out 9 Coker batters en route to a 7-1 win
Box Score HARTSVILLE, SC - The Chowan University baseball team opened the 2014 campaign with a win after downing  #25 Coker College on the road 7-1. The Hawks pitching staff combined efforts to hold the Cobras to just two hits and one run in the game. CU's Ryan Moore posted the win on the mound for the Hawks after tossing the first five innings where he struck out nine Coker batters. John Hunter and Tanner Woods each drove in two runs in the win. 

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the 3rd inning, the Hawks exploded for a three-run inning and a 3-1 lead. Moore settled in on the mound and mowed down nine batters through five innings. The offense added single runs in the top of the fourth and sixth innings and iced the game with two runs in their final at-bat. 

Bobby Mason and Austin McGhee pitched the sixth and seventh innings respectfully, giving up no hits, and helping the Hawks solidify their team's season opening win. 

Colby Wiggins was the only Hawk to gain a multiple hit game after going 2-3 at the plate for the day.He also scored a run in the game. John Hunter and Tanner Woods collected a hit each and drove in two runs apiece. Josh Catalano ended the day 1-3 with an RBI. 

Saturday's second game of the doubleheader will be moved to Sunday, February 2nd. The two teams will play a doubleheader set to start at 12:00pm. Hawks fans can follow the game live by logging onto the gocuhawks.com and clicking on the GAME DAY CENTRAL link.
