Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The #11 ranked Mount Olive Trojans erased a three-run deficit to beat the visting Hawks tonight in nonconference baseball action. Chowan exploded for a five-run fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead over the nationally ranked team but they wouldn't hold that lead for long. Mount Olive fought back to score five runs over the fifth and sixth innings to hold the Hawks at bay. Chowan moves to 19-19 after tonight's loss while the Trojans improve to 28-6.
The Hawks scored all of their runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing off four hits. Both
Brandon Mack and
Justin Bagbey produced RBI singles and
Ryan Moore drew a bases loaded walk for another RBI.
Evan Hart pitched the loss on the mound after he threw 5.1 innings. He gave up 11 hits and five earned runs for his first loss of the season.
Anthony O'Brien pitched in relief of Hart. He scattered three hits and gave up a run in 10 batters faced.
Bagbey and Mack were both 2-4 at the plate to pace Chowan offensively. Bagbey accounted for two RBI and also had a double.
The Hawks will wrap up the two-game series with the Trojans with a 4:00pm match up on Wednesday.
