Box Score PETERSBURG, VA - Brett Garrett threw a four-hit shutout in route to an 8-0 win over #3Virginia State University to open play at the 2012 CIAA Spring Championships. #2 Chowan (25-21) used a five-run fifth inning to bust open a scoreless game and roll to the shutout win. Brandon Mack paced the Hawks with three hits and two RBI. 

Both teams remained scoreless until the Hawks put up five runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. They added three runs over their next two at-bats to beat the Trojans (23-17). Earlier in the regular season the Trojans took two out of three games from the Hawks. 

Josh Catalano collected two hits in five at-bats. He also scored a run and drove a run in. 

Garrett (7-3) pitched the complete game. He gave up four hits and struck out six Trojan batters.

The Hawks will play on Friday at 11:00am against the winner of the #1 Winston-Salem State vs. #4 Saint Augustine's being played today.
