Box Score AIKEN, SC - The Hawks baseball team suffered a tough 2-1 loss at the hands of #17 USC-Aiken this evening. The loss drops Chowan to 9-13 on the year while the Pacers improve to 14-4 with the win. Chowan's
Ryan Moore and
John DesChamps combined efforts on the mound to hold the #17 Pacers to just seven hits and two runs in the game but the Hawks couldn't get the run production needed for a win.
USC-Aiken put two runs on the board in their first at-bat to put the Hawks in the hole. Moore went to work to hold the usually explosive Pacer offense off the bases. He pitched five complete innings and struck out six Pacer batters. The Hawks finally answered with a solo run in the top of the 6th inning when
Brett Overton drove in
Evan Seymour with a single to right field.
John DesChamps came in to throw the final three innings for CU. DesChamps picked up where Moore left off. He threw stellar over those three innings and gave up one hit, walked two, and struck out one.
Moore singled to open the top of the 9th to try to get a rally started for the Hawks but it fell short after a double play ball and a strike out to end the inning.
Josh Catalano led Chowan at the plate with two hits. He had a double and the Hawks only multiple hit game. Overton was 1-3 with an RBI.
Chowan (9-13, 1-2) will travel to Shaw University on Saturday and Sunday for a CIAA three-game series. Both days the games will start at 9:00pm.
