ETTRICK, VA  - The Chowan University tennis teams opened play at the CIAA North Division Round Up hosted by Virginia State University today. The men's team played one match against Virginia State and fell with a final score of 7-2. The women split opening day play with a 5-4 win over Bowie State and a 7-2 loss to Virginia State. 

On the men's side, Chowan picked up a singles victory from Sasha Kirsanov. He took an easy 6-1, 6-4 win over VSU's Avery Saunders. The Hawks won their #1 doubles with Adam Moneypenny and Danilo Galovic taking an 8-6 win over VSU's Emmanuel Haug and Nicolas Pfab.

The women opened play with a 5-4 win over Bowie State University. The Hawks took wins in their top three singles spots and their #1 and #2 doubles matches for the win.  

Virginia State swept the Hawks in doubles play and took four out of the six singles matches. CU's Natalya Kamenshchikova and Inesa Asatryan won both their singles matches and went 2-0 respectively in singles play today.
