PEMBROKE, NC –
Justin Bagbey crushed a two-run home run in the top of the first inning on Tuesday, but the Chowan University Hawks could not produce much more offense from then on, as they fell to #8 UNC-Pembroke 13-3. The Hawks fall to 3-2 on the season, and UNC-P stays perfect at 4-0.
Bagbey drove in
Ryan Moore, who singled earlier in the first inning, to give Chowan a quick 2-0 lead. The Braves responded right away, though, scoring three runs in the home half of the inning to regain the lead. UNC-P added another run in the third inning to go ahead 4-2.
In the fourth inning,
Brandon Mack drove in
William Ward with a sacrifice fly to bring Chowan within one run. However, the Hawks would manage just three hits over the final five innings.
UNC-P broke the game wide open with a six-run sixth inning. The Braves collected six hits in the inning. They would add three more runs in the seventh inning to cap the 13-3 victory.
Tyler Ross threw five innings for Chowan, allowing six earned runs and striking out one. Bagbey tallied two RBI, while Ward and
Brett Overton collected two hits apiece. Eitan Maoz led UNC-P by going 4-4 at the plate, driving in five runs and scoring three.
Chowan had 11 hits in the game, and UNC-P nailed 17. These two teams will meet again tomorrow, February 8
th, at 3:00pm in Pembroke, NC.
