Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University Hawks were swept by #3 (NCBWA) East Stroudsburg in non-conference double header on Saturday afternooon. The Warriors dominated from the start in both games winning by a score of 11-3 and 10-2. The Warriors pounded out 28 hits and 21 runs in the two games. Chowan couldn't get a feel for it at the plate all day tallying up 20 strikeouts and 10 hits despite 10 walks. Chowan falls to 5-8 on the year after today's doubleheader loss.
Chowan falls to 5-8 on the season, while the Warriors remain perfect at 5-0. Junior pitcher Brian Ernst gave Hawk hitters a hard time at the plate. Ernst threw four shut-out innings striking out 7, allowing one hit and a walk. Ernst earns his second win of the season while
John DesChamps falls to 1-2 on the season with four innings pitched surrendering 8 hits and 4 runs.
The Hawks matched the Warriors stride for stride in the first four innings. To start the top of the fifth inning the Warrior bats sparked a 4 run inning. Warrior centerfield Chris Knott broke the scoreless tie belting a solo homerun to centerfield. Next at bat Robbie Patete doubles to left center followed by a single by Nico Delerme. Ryan Guarino takes the same approach as Knott belting a 3-run homerun to left center. Warriors would knock DesChamps out of the game at that point. Freshman reliever
Evan Hart would stop the bleeding striking out wo of the next three Warrior batters only allowing one more hit in the inning. Hawks found their way onto the scoreboard as well that inning. The bottom of the fifth inning for the Hawks starts off with the first five Hawk batters getting base hits.
Ryan Moore,
Eddie Overton,
Josh Catalano and
Brandon Mack single, while
Evan Seymour doubles. The Hawks cut the lead to one before the Warriors had seen enough. The top of the sixth was the same as the fifth with ESU scoring seven runs off six hits. Mack finishes with a RBI and Seymour has two.
Josh Catalano finishes the game with two hits and one run scored.
The Warrior pitching staff finished the game with nine strikeouts and six hits allowed. While
Evan Hart surrendered two runs off three hits and
Ryan Moore gave up five runs off four hits.
Game two was much of the same for both teams. East Stroudsburg explodes for four runs off six hits and an error while leaving the bases loaded. The first inning started with six straight hits before starting pitcher
Ryan Bradshaw settled in. The game came to a screeching halt when freshman outfielder Andy Brandstetter for the Warriors dove head first into the fence off a double by
Dallas Perdue. Brandstetter was transported by ambulance with major injuries. The game was delayed for thirty minutes before the resuming.
Warrior pitchers did much of the same striking out 10 Hawk batters and allowing two runs. Game two starter for the Warriors Kennan Stare went three and a third innings allowing one hit 4 walks and striking out seven. Stare's performance notched him his second win of the season while
Ryan Bradshaw falls to 1-2 on the season pitching 4 2/3 innings allowing nine hits eight runs with seven of those being earned.
After Perdue's double in the second the Hawk bats fell silent going 0-13 from the plate. During that span the Hawks drew five walks. Hawks put themselves on the board in the bottom of the seventh with singles by
Eddie Overton and
Justin Shockley and a double by
Brandon Mack which scored the lone two runs of the game for the Hawks.
The Hawks have the week off from competition and pick back up on Saturday, February 25
th against Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a four game series.
