Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA - The baseball team dropped two games in day two play of the CIAA Spring Championships on Friday afternoon. The Hawks opened the tournament with a 7-3 win over Virginia State University to set them up to face off against top seeded Saint Augustine's College on Friday morning. The Hawks fell 10-1 to the Falcons to fall to the loser's bracket and then lost to Virginia State 10-4. Chowan was eliminated from the tournament after Friday's losses.
Chowan was held to five hits in the Saint Augustine's College loss.
Zac Caito was the only Hawk to get multiple hit after going 2-3 at the plate.
Andrew Hales got the loss on the mound after throwing 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out five batters before being relieved by
Will Medlin who threw the last 4.1 innings.
Chowan held a 4-0 lead over the Trojans in the second game before VSU exploded for eight runs in the 6th inning to help propel them to 10-4 win.
Tyler King pitched five innings, giving up three runs on six hits.
Tyler Chelenza and
Lee Dickens pitched in relief of King. Mike Taylor was 2-5 with two RBI and
Brandon Mack was 2-5 with an RBI.
Chowan moves to 23-17-1 on the year after the losses. They will travel to Mount Olive College next Saturday for a doubleheader in their next outing.
