Baseball Erases Deficit to Beat Millersville

Adam Capps drove in four runs in today's win
Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Chowan baseball team erased deficits at two different points during today's game with Millersville University to win 10-9 in the final game of a three-game series. After dropping yesterday's doubleheader the Hawks bounced back with a victory today. Chowan tallied 14 hits in the game and got keys at-bats from the middle of their line up to score go-ahead runs. 

The Marauders got on the board first in the game after a three-run third inning. They added another run in the 5th before Chowan answered with a three-run 6th inning. Adam Capps tripled to drive in two runs and Lee Dickens used a bunt single to drive in the Hawks third run of the game. Capps came up big in the Hawks next at-bat, driving in two more runs that gave his team a 5-4 lead. 

Millersville scored two runs in their next at-bat to get back on top of Chowan 6-5. Facing their third deficit of the game, the Hawks busted out for five runs in the bottom of the 8th to take a 10-6 lead. Mike Taylor accounted for two RBI while Nate Mitchell had a two-run homer to help ice the game. 

Robert Weaver picked up the save and held off Millersville in the 10-9 win. He threw the final two outs for Chowan in relief of Anthony O'Brien . O'Brien piched one inning for the win. The Hawks got a solid performance in middle relief from Tyler Chelenza . He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out five Millersville batters. 

Capps ended the day 3-5 at the plate with four RBI while Mitchell was 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Taylor was 2-4 with three runs and two RBI. 

The Hawks travel to Saint Augustine's College on Tuesday in a 2:00pm CIAA match up.
